Under the lower flounce there is a decorated band (bracelet noir, forme de pompons). The upper arm, except at the top close to the shoulder where the black sleeve of the bodice is seen, is covered with two flounces of white lace, one below the other, to the elbow. "The day the Lady is presented to the King and Queen, etc., the bodice, train and petticoat must be black: bit all the trimmings are of lace, net, etc. I agree the costume pales in comparison to the clever stage costume, I wonder what it would have looked like if they tried to make her Elissa costume look more like Carlotta’s.
Emmy rossum phantom of the opera dress austria movie#
Also, I dislike the movie (less so than the RAH version) so calling it my favorite scene is not high praise. but there’s just as many things I don’t like, such as Raoul leaving in the middle of the song, Emmy Rossum chewing gum, and the fact that the dress and scenery just don’t match Hannibal at all.

Truth be told, the Think of Me scene in the movie is probably my favorite scene, I really love the details like the cast and crew listening backstage, the pretty backdrop and horses, the shininess. I think it’s a pretty dress but like many decisions in the 2004 movie, they only chose it because it was aesthetically pleasing and didn’t really think it through. I definitely wouldn’t say you’re the only one! I’ve seen many people discuss how it makes no sense thematically (it does not look like it’s from the Hannibal mock opera and therefore only makes sense if your interpret it as a concert Empress Elisabeth (who the portrait was based on) was still alive and her dress would have been five years out of date etc).
